Airport, city centre or Tanger Med port?
Ibn Battouta airport
Easiest if you fly in: the big brands and several local agencies have a desk or deliver the car. Check opening hours for early or late flights.
City centre and Tanger Ville station
Handy if you arrive by Al Boraq high-speed train from Rabat or Casablanca. Local agencies are plentiful and often flexible on price, less so on insurance.
Tanger Med port
The port is about fifty kilometres from the centre. Arriving by ferry without a car? Ask for delivery at the port instead of paying a taxi into town.
Tangier city port
Fast ferries from Tarifa dock right in town: an agency can bring the car to the terminal.
Before you sign: the checklist
- Deposit: the amount, and whether it must be held on a credit card (often required) or can be paid in cash.
- Excess: what you pay if the car is damaged, and the price of the excess waiver.
- Inspection: photograph the car from every angle, wheels and windscreen included, in front of the agent.
- Fuel: full-to-full is the fairest rule. Refuse a pre-paid tank.
- Mileage: unlimited or capped, especially for a trip to Chefchaouen, Tetouan or Asilah.
- Ceuta and Melilla: crossing the border in a car rented in Morocco is generally forbidden by the contract.
- Licence: a valid national licence is required; some agencies also ask for an International Driving Permit, so check beforehand.
